I snagged a last-minute booking on the Magic and selected a standard inside stateroom for myself, my husband, and two 12-year-old sons. This was the cheapest option for a stateroom at the time of booking.
Original owner Genting filed bankruptcy after ordering the ship but before the ship’s completion, allowing Disney to swoop in and snag the ship for a nice price. Currently named Global Dream, the former Genting ship will receive a new name and brand-new look before it sets sail for Disney in 2025. Purchasing a half-finished ship originally slated for another cruise brand is a notably unusual move for Disney. The company likes to control the design and construction process of its resorts both on land and sea from the moment of their conception. The vessel, which remains unfinished at a shipyard in Germany, was originally ordered for Asia-based Dream Cruises, which collapsed in early 2022. Disney bought it from liquidators for the brand and plans to have it ready to sail by 2025.

Not much has been revealed about Disney Treasure just yet, but we have seen concept art of the ship’s Grand Hall atrium, which greets guests as they enter the ship. First up in the newest ships from Disney Cruise Line is an unnamed Global-class ship that Disney announced in late 2022. The still-in-construction ship wasn’t originally purchased by Disney and, in fact, belonged to another company before Disney acquired the ship in 2022. Among the vessel features of Global Dream that were specifically designed for the Asian market was a massive one-and-a-half-deck casino.
The prior two Disney ships launched in the 1990s, while Disney Dream didn’t come along until the 2010s. Disney Wish was the first liquified natural gas-powered ship for Disney. Though we loved almost every minute of it, nearly $3,000 felt like a lot to pay for a three-day vacation that at times felt very rushed. Still, the smaller ships are my favorite because they feel more intimate and easier to navigate. I was happy with how much I spent, my accommodations, and the ship overall. My sister and I didn't visit the former spot because there were so many activities on board that we wanted to experience. Instead, we experienced the Bahamas via Castaway Cay — a spot that we loved.
They are also sometimes less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis. Disney's two smaller ships are about 40% smaller than its three bigger ships and have fewer such features.
